One of the theories is that this was the last blocked port which exported supplies for Troia while under siege. The first name of the resort village was Urdoviza called after the name of Stana Urdoviza - a beautiful Bulgarian woman, coveted by the Sultan; she managed to free from tax the whole Strandja (large Bulgarian region). She and her horse met their death at the Northern Bay of Kiten, which bears the name Atliman /or the Bay of the Horse/
In 1931 on the Urdoviza peninsula the first settlers came and built 14 small houses, "Sharonian" type, after the Rene Sharon’s program. The water, the favorable position and the rich pasture-grounds attracted the settlers
When seen from a distance the houses in the village looked like a bunch of flowers and since 1932 it bears the name Kiten (which means lovely, pretty, colorful). A chapel was built in the village, devoted to St. Spas /in nowadays it is newly built/. To this saint was devoted the Health Festival celebrated 40 days after Easter
Kiten began to grow fast as a resort village in the sixties of the 20th century due to its excellent tourism resources. In the sixties, seventies and eghties big industrial companies, departments and institutions built their own recreation and holiday bases of a great size on the territory of Kiten. Today the resort is unique with its concentration of departmental facilities, no other Black Sea resort has such richness. In 1962 the village is recognized as a national resort. In the nineties the building of private hotels and lodgings, restaurants, places of entertainment was in a flourishing state. For a period of 10 years 30 new hotels were raised, many holiday stations were renovated, the buil-up area of the resort village has increased about 4 times
